Health Services

Vision

Our Optometry services provide you with the highest quality eye care.

Appointments

Patients may call 410-278-5475 (KIRK) to schedule an appointment. Appointments with the Optometrist are available during the normal hours of operations.

Patients should arrive 15 minutes early for their appointments and bring their most recently prescribed glasses and any pertinent medical records which might not be in their electronic record.

Active Duty

MEDPROS Updates can be done on a walk-in basis through Force Health Protection during normal hours of operation for those who do not wear contacts or glasses. Patients who wear contacts or glasses will need a full eye exam, which is not performed on a walk-in basis, and will need to be scheduled by calling the appointment line.

Family Members

Currently, our Optometry Clinic will see TRICARE Beneficiaries by appointment for annual eye exams. Unfortunately, we cannot issue new eye glasses to dependent beneficiaries, but will issue new prescriptions for these patients to purchase their eye glasses at their own expense. Retiree beneficiaries are authorized to order glasses. However, they are only authorized the traditional black frames. Retirees enrolled in the VA may receive metal frame glasses with current RX at the Perry Point VA Hospital 1-800-949-1003.

Ordering Glasses

Active duty Soldiers and retirees may schedule an appointment to select, be fitted for, and order glasses with a current prescription (not over 1 year old and signed by a doctor). These specific appointment slots are in the afternoons.

Frame of Choice (FOC) is a Quality of Life Program that provides Active Duty Regular Army Soldiers with a choice of civilian-style eye wear one time per year. If they are broken, the frame can be repaired. There is no lens replacement.

Contact Lenses

Contact lens prescription “renewals”, for ACTIVE DUTY patients who currently wear contact lenses, can generally be provided as part of a patient’s annual eye exam.  These patients, however, will be required to set up a follow up contact lens exam (after their annual eye exam) to address the contact lenses specifically.  Updating a contact lens prescription requires visual assessment of the lenses to ensure that they are fitting safely, and as such, the patient must present for their follow up contact lens exam wearing their lenses. The contact lens exam requires the patient to also bring the lens parameters, which can typically be found on the contact lens boxes, their most recent contact lens prescription, or a record of the most recent exam in which they were prescribed.

In the absence of the lenses or the parameters, or if contacts have not been worn by the patient for some time, a contact lens “re-fit” will need to be performed. This involves fitting with a new lens, and requires at least one follow-up evaluation to ensure proper fitting of the device after a period of wear. Re-fits are NOT able to be provided at Kirk at this time. Patients that require a re-fit are kindly asked to seek care at another MTF that provides the service or a local Optometry Practice on the outside.
