Services Provided

Aberdeen Proving Ground (APG) DCC provides annual dental examinations, cleanings, emergency and routine care to active duty Soldiers only.

How to Make an Appointment

For appointments to either dental clinic (APG NORTH DC or APG SOUTH DC), call 410-278-1795/1796. Annual dental examinations should be scheduled in advance by calling the APG Dental Clinic front desk.

APG DCC is participating in the US Army Dental Command (USADENCOM) Go First Class initiative. Whenever possible, Soldiers are scheduled to receive a cleaning at their annual exam appointment. Soldiers with good oral health will not need to return to the dental clinic for another year.

If the wait time for an appointment is too long, or the treatment is beyond the scope of our providers or facilities, a Soldier may be referred for care to the private sector through the Active Duty Dental Program (ADDP).

Any treatment completed in the private sector without prior authorization will be the billed to the individual Soldier for unauthorized treatment.

Dental Emergencies

For active duty dental emergency services, please call staff duty at 443-807-0739 or go to the nearest emergency room.

Dental Classification

The oral health of uniformed personnel shall be classified as follows:

DRC1 – Patients with a current dental examination, who do not require dental treatment or reevaluation. Class 1 patients are worldwide deployable, and are displayed as green in MEDPROS.

DRC2 – Patients with a current examination, who require non-urgent dental treatment or reevaluation for oral conditions, which are unlikely to result in dental emergencies within 12 months. This may include cleaning, maintenance therapy, fillings, etc.  Class 2 patients are worldwide deployable, but will be displayed as amber in MEDPROS.

DRC3 – Patients who require urgent or emergent dental treatment or can reasonably be expected to have a dental emergency in the next 12 months.  Class 3 patients are not worldwide deployable and are displayed as red in MEDPROS.

DRC4 – Patients who have not had a dental exam in the last 15 months. Class 4 patients normally are not worldwide deployable until they have had an exam and are determined to be Class 1 or 2 as a result of the exam. Patients whose last exam was more than 12 months but less than 15 months prior will be displayed as amber in MEDPROS.  Those who are over 15 months due for an exam are displayed as red in MEDPROS.

TRICARE Dental Program (TDP)

The TDP is available to family members of all active duty Uniformed Service personnel and to Selected Reserve and IRR members and/or their families.

To be eligible for the TDP, the sponsor must have at least 12 months remaining on his of her service commitment with the parent Service at the time of enrollment. When the Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System (DEERS) indicates less than 12 months remaining, United Concordia will validate the intent of those active duty, Selected Reserve, or IRR members to continue their service commitment.

This service commitment based on the time remaining in any single status or in any uninterrupted combination of active duty, Selected Reserve, or IRR status.

NOTE: Any reservist who is on a tour of active duty that is greater than 30 days receives the same entitlements as an active duty member.  This includes the Active Guard/Reserve (AGR) and reservists on active duty for special work or training.

Individuals eligible to enroll in the TDP include the following:

1) Family members of active duty, Selected Reserve, and IRR service members.  This includes spouses and unmarried children (including stepchildren, adopted children, and wards) under the age of 21.  Family members will be eligible up to the end of the month in which they turn 21.  Family members may be eligible after 21 if:

a)    They are enrolled full-time at an accredited college or university and they are more than 50 percent dependent on the sponsor for financial support. These students are eligible to the end of the month in which they turn age 23. If the student terminates his or her education prior to turning 23, eligibility ends at the end of the month in which education terminates.

b)    They have a disabling illness or injury that occurred before their 21st birthday or between the ages of 21 and 23 if they were enrolled as a full time student at the time of the illness or injury, and they were more than 50 percent dependent on the sponsor for financial support.

2) Selected Reserve and IRR service members. To learn more visit http://www.tricare.mil/CoveredServices/Dental/NGRDental.aspx.

NOTE: All enrollees are eligible for dental care in both CONUS and OCONUS service areas.  The family member does not have to be command sponsored, listed on the sponsor's change of assignment orders, or formally recognized as a family member on an accompanied tour to receive dental care in the OCONUS service area.
